A client who had previously worked with Gillian wanted an extension to his attractive stone villa located within the West Murrayfield Conservation Area. A long driveway wraps around the villa and ends with a 2 car garage to the rear of the property. The existing garage location meant that living areas were visually and physically impeded from the garden. The client's brief was simply to open up the living area to the extensive west facing garden and relocate the garage to the front.
However, what seems to be a simple end result hides the complex programme which involved creating a new weatherproof structure to house the existing house boiler system formerly located in the garage area. A gate hides within the horizontal open joint cladding, so it remains very functional but not distracting
"Crew managed us and the contractor throughout the programme and not only provided excellent design input, but made it an enjoyable experience.
I would have no hesitation in recommending them."

The finished extension ties together the disparate elements under a unifying vertical plain of timber cladding under an over-sailing horizontal zinc canopy. Large triple doors fold back to neatly clear the opening. The unobstructed views combined with the large roof lights form a space that feels connected with the outside while still sheltered.
